Active Against ALS wishes to thank our two main sponsors, Blue Care Network and Bank of Ann Arbor, for their generous support – their contributions make the Twinkie Run a better event for our community and stronger fundraiser for ALS!

An A2A3 founding board member, Suzanne turned out to be a wonderful photographer for all of our events, including the Twinkie Run.
At the 2018 race, Suzanne showed up at the race to take photos at the bridge and finish as usual. What wasn’t usual was that she was battling cancer, and she wasn’t expected to be there that day.
Tragically, we lost Suzanne last fall. It was a devastating loss to all of us who knew her through her generous, tireless work with so many school and community groups, including A2A3.
Please think of Suzanne as you cross the bridge and finish line this year and appreciate her for so many photos and so much other work in our fight against ALS over the past ten years.
We wish to thank YOU for your support over the years as we – and perhaps you – have all endured our own challenges on the way to our ten-year milestone last fall.
Sincerely,
Joel and Jackie Dalton

Thank you very much to our generous supporters! The Twinkie Run would be only a dream without their amazing support:
- Thank you to our generous Silver sponsors, Bank of Ann Arbor and Blue Care Network of Michigan.
- Special thanks also to The Local Bike Shop A2 and Tortoise and Hare.
- Thanks to Black Diesel Coffee for donating the yummy coffee and caffeine to warm us up before and after the race – and to Meijer for helping out with the Twinkies that will stuff so many faces!
- AND – we could not put on this race without YOUR support as well as the support of our volunteers!

The 2012 Twinkie Run
Our wacky 5K run was featured in Gourmet Magazine this year! Of course, they like the homemade Twinkie contest at the end of the race. We also made it onto Greatist.com for the Most Incredible Themed Races list. Thanks for being active with Ann Arbor Active Against ALS and supporting the effort to increase awareness of Lou Gehrig’s Disease while raising funds for research toward a cure! And thank you to our terrific sponsors!
April 1st 2011 – The Annual April Fools Twinkie Run!
The Twinkie Run was started in 2010 by Shawn Jyawook, of Jyco Sealing Technologies, Inc. The race is in memory of his employee and friend, Jim Mong, who passed away from ALS in 2009. Shawn and his wife wanted to do something to honor Jim’s memory. As Shawn explained, “I wanted a great way to have something continue that was humorous, like Jim Mong’s personality, and that linked into something that I enjoy- running. The Twinkie part is just funny and a great way to remember someone with a smile and not with sadness – and that is the person Jim was, a man of great humor and great compassion.
We are pleased this has turned into an annual tradition!”
Shawn
